Ah the weather was perfect. It had been raining for days and now, finally, the sun had come out. The temperature was luscious; a soft, perfectly cool breeze brushed over the campus. And there was chalk. Oh yes. All my music major buddies had migrated to the walk in front of our dorm and were now plastering it with their artistic chalk creations. Flowers, sun, musical scales, rivers, body outlines, and hopscotch adorned the previously mundane concrete. Cola icees helped.
But finally there was just no more room on the sidewalk, so we all (all nine of us) piled into a friend's car and drove down to the park. The river had flooded but even though it had gone back down, it was still swift, deep, and muddy. We walked along its banks, laughing and tossing drift wood back in. Who's stick would pass under the bridge fastest? Was it at all wise to take a dip in the river, or was wisdom for the old and stodgy? A few of us wandered up to the top of the hill and lay on the soft, slightly damp grass, and named clouds. Then went running back down.
But sadly all frabjous days must end, and homework must resume. I left my friends to do laundry and pack for spring break. For the first time - oh what miracle! - I was actually a little sad to be leaving for a week. But who knows what fun (water balloon fights, nerf wars, firefly reruns) will ensue when we return.
