Christmas In July

I love the Fourth of July. As I once told my sister, it's like my second Christmas. I like them both for about the same reasons too: bright lights, plenty of food, and lotsa fun. And like Christmas, there's just something in the air on Independence Day. People seem happier with life and, well, a little freer.
This year I'm finding opportunity abundant to celebrate. I've already been to two fireworks shows, a political rally, a music concert, a party, and been boating and given free hot dogs, and the Fourth isn't even over yet. I'm sure John Adams would have been quite proud.
So here's to liberty, no matter how you celebrate it. As someone who I'm sure is quite famous once said - "let freedom ring!"

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism. ~Erma Bombeck
