I was recently diagnosed with PCB syndrome. This is a temporary yet often devastating illness that is commonly contracted in the last week of December. It is nondiscriminatory, striking old and young, male and female. It is also very contagious. Viewing holiday photos on Facebook, taking down decorations, and hearing holiday music on expired TV/radio commercials can all cause people to contract PCB. But honestly, if you have experienced any joy, good tidings, and/or cheer within the past month, you are at high risk.
Symptoms of PCB include: long, dull days; strong surges of nostalgia; cravings for candy canes and eggnog; feelings of irritability, loneliness, or depression; random urges to shout "merry Christmas" at people.
If you have experienced any of these symptoms, as have I, you may have PCB. But do not be alarmed. Many sufferers report that their symptoms are eased by the arrival of New Year celebrations. If all else fails, there's always Easter.
